Faerieality Series (2018-Present)

Join with me as I visit and play in the internal, eternal realms of Faerieality which will one day become an oracle deck, wheeee!

I am a self taught artist intuitively inspired by a shamanic exploration of seen and unseen worlds. I combine unconventional methods like non dominant hand drawing, intuitive word collage, and dreams to help me lose my bearing and move forward with only a glimmer of faerie dust to lead the way.

The Faerieality Series is painted with gouache and watercolor on Montréal-made paper (the city of my conception) or on heavy watercolor paper. Each piece is inspired using the ancient craft of Bibliomancy. For me this entails choosing a random (intuitive) passage from one of my books and using that passage to inspire the painting. After finishing the painting I then randomly choose a word or phrase from the same book to become the title. Often I will cut out these words and collage them into the painting.

I work within the field of Spiritual Automatism. This is a method of art-making in which the artist suppresses conscious control over the making process, allowing the unconscious mind to have great sway. Early 20th-century Dadaists, such as Hans Arp and made some use of this method through chance operations.

Inspiration

Bibiliomancy. Forgotten Victorian artist, spiritualist and medium, Georgiana Houghton is also an inspiration.

I draw with my non-dominant left hand, the hand of the goddess and intuition because it feels awkward and real and alien and perfect. Make sense? The trickster is at work here and she is beautiful and terrible at the same time.

Guided by inner vision I use both my dominant and non dominant hand to create a portal into another world called Faerieality.
