Artist Statement
I reclaim Witch. My paintings are spells birthing magick into the world. I work ritually to craft and prepare each piece with blessings, protection and intention. I work magickally channelling spirits, guided by intuition. I am a force for change. I create a world in my art–making where all time is now. As I approach sixty the work is becoming more important. I always knew my work was sacred but acknowledging it in my cells wasn’t easy because it goes against all we are taught by society with its capitalist, throw away, fame consuming culture. My job as the Virgo Spider Woman is finding the patterns in time and organizing them to be of service especially to women (or other gendered) who feel erased by time, aging and Neurodivergence.
My current series of mixed media paintings begin with a non dominant left hand drawing then delves deeper using bibliomancy and collage involving sacred texts along with dreams and chance dada, surreal techniques such as spiritual automatism guided by the words of Leonora Carrington. My work also has a practical, interactive and healing application as I transform it into oracle decks, books, zines and soul readings.
Canadian born, I currently live and work in Canada and the United States. I have exhibited my work since 1993. I am an initiated Third Road Faerie Witch Shaman with a BA degree in Art History from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada and a Diploma in Graphic Design. I am a soul reader, medium and astrologer and have self published five oracle card decks. I teach at Wise Woman School and am the founder and facilitator of many artist/writers’ groups, covens and moon circles.
