What Is an Ancestor Reading?
In an ancestor reading I connect with the spirits of those who have passed on—family members, loved ones, and sometimes guiding spirits who wish to step forward with messages of wisdom, healing, or reassurance.
Often people come to these sessions hoping to hear from a specific ancestor. Sometimes that ancestor appears, and sometimes another voice from the lineage steps forward—often someone the client most needs to hear from, even if they don’t recognize the name right away.
During a reading I may see, hear, or feel the presence of an ancestor or spirit guide. I often receive symbols, impressions, names, and messages that help identify who is coming through.
Sometimes I will also share a meditation or channeled exercise so that you have actionable tools to continue working with your ancestral guidance after the reading.
Ancestors are family members—or sometimes close friends—who have passed away but choose to come through with messages of support. I will often request specific information from the ancestor so that you can positively identify them.
Spirit guides may also appear during a session. These guides can be wise teachers or guardians from another dimension who offer protection and insight. They may appear as ancestral spirits, animal totems, angels, or nature spirits acting as spiritual counselors during times of need.
For many people, these readings bring a profound sense of reassurance—knowing they are watched over and loved by those who truly care for their well-being.
Seeing the Messages in Action: Kaitlyn’s Reading
After her reading, my client Kaitlyn asked a thoughtful question about something that came through during our session. With her permission, I’m sharing a small part of that conversation here.
Kaitlyn:
"I’m curious to hear your take on the part of the reading where they all had a nervous system reaction when looking into U.S. politics. My assumption is that people in the spirit world no longer experience negative emotions. From your experience, do certain types of trauma seem to stay with people after death?"
Kathy:
Those are such interesting questions.
My sense is that while the physical body has ceased to exist, the soul is still very much alive. When I receive messages during a reading, I translate what I’m perceiving into human language so that we can understand it.
I can’t say exactly what spirits feel or whether they experience emotions the same way humans do. But I do believe that trauma can become part of a soul’s experience and memory. When ancestors communicate, they may reference those experiences in ways that help us understand the message they want to convey.
As a medium, I simply receive and share what comes through in the clearest way I can.
Kaitlyn:
"That explanation makes sense—to convey a message to you, they showed themselves responding in a certain way to current events. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they are emotionally stuck or suffering."
Kaitlyn graciously allowed me to share this exchange because it touches on something important: when spirits communicate, their messages often need to be translated into human understanding.

Please send your questions beforehand and let me know if you would also like suggestions or techniques for connecting with your spirit guides on your own.
When sharing the name of the ancestor, please include only their first name.
During the reading I will do my best to capture whatever messages come through—whether I see, hear, or feel their presence.
