Just a Travellin' Fool

Painting in process - acrylic and pastel on silk

Fear of intimacy, AIDS, bodily contact and exchange of fluids has led to our dependence on email and the internet where we can hide out and feel safe. (These ideas were discussed in the excellent movie "Me and You and Everyone We Know" by filmmaker Miranda July).

Each of us is alone in our cocoons, connected digitally and ephemerally, instant messaging each other. We are separate yet connected but we can't touch or feel one another so we reach out to strangers, millions of them:

"Save me from loneliness," we cry and our echo returns emptiness.

Are we really more connected now?

I see the internet as a new way of connecting - it is teaching us how energy works, similar to a soul reading, which for me involves reading a person's energy via distance - energy knows no time or space constraints - all time is now - we are all connected whether we know it or not.

I paint to extend emotions outward into the universe as the emotions become larger and more meaningful - myth-making in process.

My new paintings are filling up the wall of my living room!

Each generation creates it's own definition of beauty often tearing down the previous generation's definition in the process.

I am part of Generation X: punk music, AIDS, the end of the Cold War - we ARE NOT Flower Children or hippies (the Boomer Generation) even if some of us are vegetarians. Our generation may appear 'dark' and aimless to the Boomers, but our reality growing up was dark.

"I ain't no mystic baby and I ain't no whore, just a travellin' fool with a beautiful soul". From the album "PippinTravels" by PippinJoy.

Tios Tacos

Folk Art in Riverside, California at Tios Tacos - created entirely by the owner and similar to the Watts Towers in Los Angeles. I wanted to order nopales (cactus juice) at the Juice Bar but they were fresh out. Darn.

The Chapel - folks get married here too.

This caged creation is stuffed with junk and bottles. I first heard about this restaurant from artist Richard White.

Richard White - from the show "Gone Goslin" - Quad Gallery, RCC.

Of gods and angels

Accessing one's inner male, testosterone subverted, not in producing war, violence, hate, but instead passion, love, intensity, driving, pounding, insistent, revolutionary, effecting change, mythical, noble, of gods and angels. "But love is not what you're thinking of" from "Please" by U2.

"If God would send you his angels" ~ U2.

I'm more afraid of lack then of plenty. Curing lack by giving.

Waiting for the painting to speak...telling me what to do next; what direction, what line, what colour, texture, flavour, emotion, it needs to express through me.

Angel wings like fingers, tentacles of fire and water, devouring, engulfing.

Of gods and angels - 3.5' x 3.5' - acrylic & pastel on silk

Wings of strength, like legs.

Musical Ambiance: "Zooropa" by U2 and "Pop" by U2.

7 Deadly Sins

Dripping Springs Campground

100 Words

Sunday, melancholy endings.

Still waiting for that song you promised to write me.

We are the under-appreciated haunting your dreams with promises yet to be fulfilled.

I wear my rose coloured glasses for you, for me.

U2:
"And you give yourself away, and you give yourself away,
And you give, and you give,
And you give yourself away,
With or without you,
I can't live, with or without you."

You sit playing guitar and singing by the Christmas tree, drinking your wine and you say, "I've got a couple dead strings".

Admitting weakness is never easy ~ the seven deadly sins ~ if you believe in sin, which I don't.

And you?

Last Person on Earth

In Process (acrylic & pastel on silk)

100 Words

To be the last person on earth...imagine, talking with trees, stones, clouds, sea. If today was my last day on earth I would paint, meditate, write and cry and dance and love.

Each day closer to death, we struggle for breath, to breathe fully, clearly, wholly. The answers are all around us. How to live fully, completely, devotedly?

If no one else remains, what is the point?

- To give back to the Universe - To be one with the All - To live and love fully in each moment

These things matter.

There is no point, really. Just Be-ing.
