Daily Magic: Full Moon in Virgo Blessing

Kathy Crabbe, Full Moon Blessings, 2013, ink & watercolor on paper, 5 x 7”Kathy Crabbe, Full Moon Blessings, 2013, ink & watercolor on paper, 5 x 7”.

Welcome to my newest series of paintings titled Daily Magic: Pictures & Words to Wish Upon. This series is dedicated to Sally.  It will also appear in Susun Weed's new member's only site at www.wisewomanmentor.com where I have been invited to be a mentor columnist as well as exhibit my art in the Goddess Art Gallery. I actually got my start in online teaching at Susun Weed's Wise Woman University where I offered my eClass Awaken Your Divine Feminine Soul which is currently being offered on my own site as a self-study program.

The first painting in this series is titled Full Moon Blessings and was painted to honour Mother Moon as she passed through the sign of Virgo a few days ago. My intention with this series is to create a painting a day using magical forms and shapes with the power to make magic happen, to bring form into being, to change the future and to transform the present. It will be a book of:

  • Mystical forms
  • Power sayings
  • Beauty
  • Whimsy
  • Healing
  • Teaching
  • Intention
  • Wishing
  • Truth
  • Knowing
  • Wisdom
  • Ancient wisdom
  • Power
  • Strength
  • Sweetness
  • A Muse
  • Strange

About the Moon in Virgo: Mutable Earth-sign Virgo gets us back to work; it's time to evaluate our harvest, put sweat equity in all our dreams and educate others with all we know and all we intend. Virgo asks us to proceed, not with judgment but with healing; tune up our health, edit our life. Virgos are our natural counselors, healers, and teachers; they evaluate, diagnose and edit with ease. They have finely-tuned minds and nervous-systems, and are acutely aware of the mind-body connection; ideas and facts are their bouquet. They're asked to focus on the harvest, not the weeds.

Excerpted from the We'Moon Datebook.

I'm a Virgo with several planets in the 6th House, the Virgo House (an über Virgo you could say!) and I completely relate to everything above.

Kathy Crabbe: Guiding Your Creative Soul

Are we under the sea again?

Kathryn V. Crabbe. 2012. Presence. Acrylic on canvas, 48 x 48 inches. Presence is unusual in that it's strictly acrylic on canvas, no pastel or charcoal was used. Presence is part of the Journey Into Intimacy Series; an abstract, expressionistic series of mixed media paintings exploring intimacy using symbolic forms found in nature. I posted this painting on Facebook and received these comments:

Love this, like a dream catcher with a pool of tears, vulnerable, pouring out. Are we under the sea again? Oyster. Pearl.

Recently, a painter friend asked me, "What were you thinking as you painted?" and I found myself waxing eloquent, which surprised me because it was the act itself of speaking aloud which helped me understand the 'why'.

To me, Presence depicts a mystical, other-worldly landscape with an ethereal glowing 'presence' or circular object which could represent the moon or the sun. Forcing myself to keep it simple and uncluttered I filled the negative space with a misty blend of creamy whites, smokey greys and aqua.

Arty weekend: Painting at Dorland & Wine Country Opening

Last weekend (March 3-4) was the Spring Open House at the Dorland Arts Colony in Temecula, California. I was there painting along with two artist's group I belong to: the Plein Air (open-air) Artists of Riverside (PAAR) and the Printmaker's Network (PNET). There was live music, art for sale, artist's in action, art colony residents (Leslie Sterne, author), an auction and a raffle; plenty of arty goodness for all. Afterwards I invited PAAR members to attend the grand opening of a new art gallery in Temecula's wine region where I was exhibiting two paintings from my new series, Journey Into Intimacy. It was the final night of the opening so we happily helped polish off the last of the cream puffs, Van Roekel Merlot, cheesecake and brownies as we watched a gorgeous California sun setting over the vineyards. Arty links are at bottom of post.

Just a Travellin' Fool

Painting in process - acrylic and pastel on silk

Fear of intimacy, AIDS, bodily contact and exchange of fluids has led to our dependence on email and the internet where we can hide out and feel safe. (These ideas were discussed in the excellent movie "Me and You and Everyone We Know" by filmmaker Miranda July).

Each of us is alone in our cocoons, connected digitally and ephemerally, instant messaging each other. We are separate yet connected but we can't touch or feel one another so we reach out to strangers, millions of them:

"Save me from loneliness," we cry and our echo returns emptiness.

Are we really more connected now?

I see the internet as a new way of connecting - it is teaching us how energy works, similar to a soul reading, which for me involves reading a person's energy via distance - energy knows no time or space constraints - all time is now - we are all connected whether we know it or not.

I paint to extend emotions outward into the universe as the emotions become larger and more meaningful - myth-making in process.

My new paintings are filling up the wall of my living room!

Each generation creates it's own definition of beauty often tearing down the previous generation's definition in the process.

I am part of Generation X: punk music, AIDS, the end of the Cold War - we ARE NOT Flower Children or hippies (the Boomer Generation) even if some of us are vegetarians. Our generation may appear 'dark' and aimless to the Boomers, but our reality growing up was dark.

"I ain't no mystic baby and I ain't no whore, just a travellin' fool with a beautiful soul". From the album "PippinTravels" by PippinJoy.

Musical Ambiance: "PippinTravels" - PippinJoy. Film Ambiance: "Me and You and Everyone We Know" - Miranda July.
