Three New Paintings: Attunement, Love Is... & Spell Kitty

Attunement
I'd been feeling restless with my painting but with "Attunement" I achieved exactly what I wanted which was to express the inner peace, strength and harmony I was feeling in that moment. I captured that feeling by taking the imagery down to it's simplest elements. I have always said that simplicity is THE HARDEST thing to achieve in creative work; it's so tempting to keep adding more and more and more to the painting rather than to just leave it alone when it's done.

Before “Attunement” I got messy and invited my inner child to have some fun!  This is what came out.

Spell Kitty
I was really feeling like painting on something solid so I pulled out my reclaimed pine board which is quite thick (3/4 inches) and I intuitively chose a passage from the Motherpeace Tarot Book which turned into a spell for this Kitty Painting to help your "journey to the cool realms of intellect, a time out from the emotions in favor of a thoughtful, introspective period." (Motherpeace, p. 211, Priestess of Cups Card).

New Painting: How to Suffer No Fools and Play Amongst the Stars

Her songbird was her totem, her blessing in disguise. She had secrets, told no lies, suffered no fools. She was dark and powerful and potent inside and when she was ready she would sing, but never for her supper. She preferred to walk alone amongst the stars she called home.

My Art is Featured in Witches & Pagans Magazine

Anne Niven, the editor of Witches & Pagans Magazine sends me articles to illustrate for her wonderful witchy magazine, but they must be in black and white! I decided to try out my new walnut ink instead which is a rich, lustrous, earthy brown and LOVED IT! Somehow it made the work more magickal and enchanted. Here is the illustration which was chosen for an article about the Olde English language. Expect to see more of my walnut ink illustrations in upcoming issues including Sage Woman which is also published by Anne and BBI Media.

English was born of heathens and is perfectly suited to expressing heathen concepts and world-view. The Gods are already there in the simple words of everyday life." This is an excerpt from the article titled Heathen English by Ash Grimsbury that appeared in Witches & Pagans Magazine, Issue 32, July 2016. I was asked to illustrate this article by the editor Anne Niven and chose the magical word Scincraeft as my subject and inspiration although this illustration was not published.
