Goddesses & Heroines Sketches & Paintings-in-Progress

February 15, 2016 Kathy Crabbe
In-process-painting-of-Greek-Goddess-Oreads-by-Kathy-Crabbe.jpg

Here is a sampling of some of my recent paintings and sketches in-progress of goddess and heroines.  When they are finished I will share them first with Museletter subscribers who have the first option to buy them. After two weeks I'll list them as prints, cards  and originals in my shop. My reference book for these paintings is The Book of Goddesses & Heroines by Patricia Monaghan. Painting Goddesses & Heroines again is making me very happy and very soon you'll be seeing these paintings featured in magazines, journals, and in museum stores so stay tuned for more info!

Trickster Goddess Le-Hev-Hev

January 21, 2016 Kathy Crabbe
Le-Hev-Hev by Kathy Crabbe
Le-Hev-Hev by Kathy Crabbe

“Le-Hev-Hev” a Melanesian Goddess…‘she who smiles so that we can draw near and she can eat us’ …Painting Goddess has once again brought me back to myself, after a week of painting aliens and feeling alienated and gloomy The Sun has come back! Prints and cards are available in my shop.

About Le-Hev-Hev: Before a departing soul could pass to the afterlife, the Melanisians said, it had to confront this goddess, who tried to trick the soul with games. Drawing on the sand in front of her, she challenged the soul to complete her diagram. Should the dead one be unable to do so --or did so incorrectly -- Le-Hev-Hev had the soul for dinner.

The Malekulans who honored Le-Hev-Hev considered her a goddess, not a monster, offering her boars so she would not eat human corpses. Her earthly forms were the spider, the crab, and the rat; she was also embodied in female genitalia. Her name has been roughly translated as “she who smiles so that we draw near and she can eat us.” ~ from The Book of Goddesses & Heroines by Patricia Monaghan

Capricorn New Moon Altar 2016 by Kathy Crabbe Dear Creative Soul,

It's the New Moon in Capricorn this Saturday. Are you ready? I hope this blog post provides you with some helpful tips to tackle this New Moon & New Year with some lusty Capricornian determination and chutzpah.

I painted the Goddess/Heroine below yesterday. May her strong and divine presence inspire your New Moon altars and circles.  Her name is Pao-Yueh or 'Precious mouth,' a heroic Chinese Queen" as quoted from The Book of Goddesses and Heroines by Patricia Monaghan,
