On Reincarnation, Mediumship and Channeling

Edgar Cayce on Reincarnation by Noel Langley"Often I have fallen far short in presenting myself as a living sacrifice for whatever source might manifest through me. In that sense, I suppose I may be called a medium.  But I hope I may be, rather, a channel through which blessings may come to many, rather than a medium through which any force might manifest. For if it is of God, it must be good. Or, if it is good, it must come from the All-Good, or God. This good, I trust, is the type of psychic phenomena manifesting through me."  ~ Edgar Cayce on Reincarnation

I've been reading Edgar Cayce's book on reincarnation and I agree with the passage above.  I find that through channeling I can be of greater service than through mediumship, but I didn't exactly know why until now. I did realize that by offering soul readings (ie. channeling) that I was providing guidance and insight rather than 'proving' the existence of life after death.  Don't get me wrong, I do find mediumship to be absolutely amazing and helpful, but a mediumship reading tends to be either 'right or wrong' in the eyes of the receiver (the client) especially the way I work, in that I ask the client to provide me with the first name of the ancestor they want me to connect with. As a medium, I either connect with their ancestor or I don't whereas with a soul reading, any information that comes through can be of benefit - does that make any sense?

I also feel connected with Edgar Cayce because my paternal grandmother, Ethel went to see him. I'm not sure she was successful in getting a reading from him, but she did visit his Institute, the A.R.E. in Virginia Beach and I'm sure she read his many books.

Edgar Cayce ClairvoyantAbout Edgar Cayce: "The "sleeping" Edgar Cayce was a psychic known to thousands of people, in all walks of life, who had cause to be grateful for his help.  Even as a child, on a farm near Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where he was born on March 18, 1877, Edgar Cayce displayed powers of perception which seemed to extend beyond the normal range of the five senses.  At the age of six or seven he told he parents that he was able to see and talk to "visions," sometimes of relatives who had recently died. His parents attributed this to the overactive imagination of a lonely child who had been influenced by the dramatic language of the revival meetings which were popular in that section of the country.  Later, by sleeping with his head on his schoolbooks, he developed some form of photographic memory which helped him advance rapidly in the country school.

When Edgar Cayce died on January 3, 1945, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he left well over 14,000 documented stenographic records of the telepathic-clairvoyant statements he had given for more than six thousand different people over a period of forty-three years. These documents are referred to as "Readings." ~ excerpted from "Edgar Cayce on Reincarnation: Strange, psychic accounts of people who have lived more than once. Embrace One-ness: A Spirit Guided Vision

Channeling Paloma of the Here and Now

Arms spread wide, black hair flowing out, I stand with my back against Paloma, her arms around me. I can feel her heart beating.

Black flames race out from her fingertips encircling us, encircling the whole world.

I stand. I wait. I feel Her power.

Kathy Crabbe, Paloma, 2013, mixed media on paper, 5 x 8”Kathy Crabbe, Paloma, 2013, mixed media on paper, 5 x 8”

I repeat the words:

You are not your paintings.

You are not your work.

You are Divine.

You are Goddess.

Let go.

Let go.

Embrace the One-ness

Embrace the One-ness.

And I smile and feel my shoulders relax, a weight has lifted. I breathe in the morning.

I can do it. You can too. Whatever is making you miserable and bringing you down, know that you too will get though this.

Paloma lifts me up onto a stone ledge so that I am facing her. We are in a Cretan Cave of Red Bulls.* I place my hands upon red imprints of other hands on the cave walls feeling Herstory within me.

Like a jackal I howl; a thin, mournful sound that echoes back at me increasing in depth until it blends with my heartbeat.

Then we laugh, our teeth bared and shining...the Moon beckons and we go.

Channeling Persephone: Spring's Rebirth

Kathy Crabbe, Spring, 2002, acrylic on wood, 6 x 8".Kathy Crabbe, Spring, 2002, acrylic on wood, 6 x 8".

It's the New Moon in Aries and it's a powerhouse Moon with six planets in Aries; firepower indeed to kick off the Spring Equinox; so, set your intentions, bless them, then let them go.

Lately, a good friend (an astrologer) and I have been working with the Persephone archetype in various ways, but it wasn't until the other day, after setting up my Persephone altar that I was able to connect with Persephone deeply through channeling. Just in time for the first New Moon of Spring, but first I'd like to share with you the Persephone Myth and NOT the well known patriarchal version which you probably already know.

I do not like or resonate with the standard version of the Persephone myth; it's complicated, negative and depressing. I do resonate with the pre-patriarchal version of Her myth and would like to share it with you. This version was written by ecofeminist philosopher Charlene Spretnak and is based upon the classical scholarship of Jane Ellen Harrison, Louis Farnell, Sir Arthur Evans, and others.

The Myth of Persephone

Demeter and Persephone share the bountiful fields, enjoying the beautiful earth, and watching over the crops together. One day, Persephone asks her mother about the restless spirits of the dead she has seen hovering about their earthly homes. "Is there no one in the underworld to receive the newly dead?" she asks. Demeter explains that she rules over the underworld as well as the upper world, but her more important work is above ground, feeding the living.

Reflecting on the bewilderment and pain she has seen in the ghostly spirits, Persephone replies, "The dead need us, Mother. I will go to them." After trying to persuade Persephone to stay with her, Demeter relents: "Very well...We cannot give only to ourselves. I understand why you must go. Still, you are my daughter, and for every day you remain in the underworld, I will mourn your absence."

Persephone gathers three sheaves of wheat and three poppies, favorite flowers of Demeter, takes the torch that Demeter has prepared for her, and begins her descent down into a deep chasm into the underworld. After a long journey, she comes to a place where many spirits are milling about, moaning. She moves among them, and after preparing an altar, she beckons them to her, saying, "If you come to me, I will initiate you into your new world. You have waxed into the fullness of life, and waned into darkness; may you be renewed in peace and wisdom."

Meanwhile, Demeter has grown sorrowful, her bountiful energies draining from the earth, leaving it barren, with no crops growing to feed the humans. After some months, Persephone decides she will return to the upper world. As she approaches her mother, the flowers of the earth rise up in joyful song, and as Demeter and Persephone run to embrace each other, the birds and animals begin to sing, "Persephone returns, Persephone returns." And as the mother and daughter dance and dance, new growth springs up in the fields, and the humans join in the rejoicing.

Each time Persephone goes back down into the underworld, the mortals share with Demeter the bleak season of her daughter's absence; and as she rejoins her mother in the spring, they are renewed by the signs of Persephone's return.

Channeling Persephone ~ Rebirth

Today, in honour of the New Moon in Aries I created my usual New Moon Circle, and was surprised to find myself a wee bit down (considering all that Aries Firepower in the air), so I called upon Persephone in conjunction with the pulling of a Rune and asked for her help.

As Persephone and I fly above the earth, she says to me, "See, down there, there are scores of people  dying as they live, but we can't help them because  they are choosing life in death. And you, are you dying?"

Me: No, I'm not, I want to help!

Persephone: Then let's go on. "Print this, and you die," she says with a smile. "You see, dying isn't anything to fear; let it go...let it all go."

Me: But losing someone is.

Persephone: Come, let's continue. What do you see?

Me: I see people living, loving, planting, and dying, really dying.

Persephone: And yes, no cliches from me...I'll keep my mouth zipped. Let's fly on.

We stop and rest.

Persephone: What do you see when you see me?

Me: I see a woman, a goddess, of many-changing hues.

Persephone: Look again, what do you see?

Me: I see Me.

Then, all of a sudden I am She and so completely filled with bliss that my eyes fill up with tears.

Me: "How can I serve?" And I answer my own question: I can paint, with joy and abandon and love and passion and anger and rage and fury; the world. I can share my words and visions, and heal and commiserate and burn with Divine Bliss;

The fire, the water, the air, the earth,

And bless all (that is and is not) for I am reborn.

Blessed Be, and thank you, Per seph onee.

The Power of Positive Thinking

Kathy Crabbe, Love, 1998, silk dyes on silk, 7x7”.

Kathy Crabbe, Love, 1998, silk dyes on silk, 7x7”.

I've been delving back into the Seth Books (channeled by Jane Roberts beginning in 1963). I read them before going to sleep; to invigorate my dreams and shift my consciousness. I always find a few nuggets of wisdom each time I flick through her books and this particular nugget (see below) stayed with me for a while; especially part 4, about how we plant the seeds of the future in the present. I've been consciously working with planting seeds of success in my own future and practicing gratitude (saying my blessings) for all I have in my present every day and it really does make a difference. I feel happier and more positive all round. It seems so simple, but sometimes simple things are the easiest to remember and put into practice. I am not advocating that we all become Miss (or Mr.) Sunshine 24-7, that's just plain annoying, but that we make some room in our daily lives for positive thinking alongside our daily practices.

One: I will approve of myself, my characteristics, my abilities, my likes and dislikes, my inclinations and disinclinations, realizing that these form my unique individuality. They are given me for a reason.

Two: I will approve of and rejoice in my accomplishments, and I will be as vigorous in listing these -- as rigorous in remembering them -- as I have ever been in remembering and enumerating my failures or lacks of accomplishment.

Three: I will remember the creative framework of existence, in which I have my being. Therefore the possibilities, potentials, seeming miracles, and joyful spontaneity of Framework 2 will be in my mind, so that the doors to creative living are open.

Four: I will realize that the future is a probability. In terms of ordinary experience, nothing exists there yet. It is virgin territory, planted by my feelings and thoughts in the present. Therefore I will plant accomplishments and successes, and I will do this by remembering that nothing can exist in the future that I do not want to be there.

How to envision a new reality: Tips from the ancient dreamers

Kathy Crabbe, Take me to your playground, 2012, acrylic and charcoal on canvas, 48 x 48”. While reading the Seth Material (printed below) please be aware that this is channeled information received by Jane Roberts from Seth, “an energy personality essence no longer focused in physical form”. Many people find this kind of writing transports them creatively into other worlds and dimensions.

The text below about the ancient dreamers clicked with me instantly so I'd like to share with you how it relates to my work. When I began my current series of paintings, Journey into Intimacy I too radically slowed my pace of living; editing and simplifying, putting my painting and drawing at the forefront. My inner compass has always been guided by my dreams and I feel a natural affinity with the ancient cave painters, and with vedic scribes and medieval monks; creators of the illuminated manuscripts. I also believe that we can heal and create our reality using our thoughts, dreams and visions as a starting point. But now, with my current work I am expanding that personal vision, just as the ancient dreamers and cave painters did, into the external world. My dreams are my paintings and, like the ancient dreamers, invite you to step into a new world and envision a new reality.

My first painting on canvas from the Journey into Intimacy series is titled "Take me to your playground" (see above) which quite literally is an invitation, but an invitation to what sort of playground is unclear, leaving room for imagination - that part is up to you. Please feel free to share your thoughts, comments and visions below.

Notes from the Seth Material by Jane Roberts

There is a great underlying unity in all of man's so-called early cultures - cave drawings and religions - because they were all fed by that common source, as man tried to transpose inner knowledge into physical actuality.

The body learned to maintain its stability, its strength and agility, to achieve a state of balance in complementary response to the weather and elements, to dream computations that the conscious mind alone could not hold. The body learned to heal itself in sleep in its dreams - and at certain levels in that state even now each portion of consciousness contributes to the health and stability of all other portions. Far from the claw-and-dagger universe, you have one whose very foundation is based upon the loving cooperation of all of its parts.

These ancient dreams were shared to some extent by each consciousness that was embarked upon the earthly venture, so that creatures and environment together formed great environmental realities. Valleys and mountains, and their inhabitants, together dreamed themselves into being and coexistence.

The species - from your viewpoint - lived at a much slower pace in those terms. The blood, for example did not need to course so quickly through the veins, the heart did not need to beat so fast.

Gravity itself did not carry its all pervasive sway, so that the air was more buoyant. Man was aware of its support in a luxurious, intimate fashion. He was aware of himself in a different way, so that, for example, his identification with the self did not stop where his skin stopped: He could follow it outward into the space about his form, and feel it merge with the atmosphere with a primal sense-experience that you have forgotten.

In a fashion those ancient dreams, through their immense creativity, dreamed all of life's creatures in all of their pasts, presents, and futures - that is, their dreams opened up the doors of space and time to entities that otherwise would not have been released into actualization, even as, for example, the units of consciousness were once released from the mind of All That Is.
