New Moon in Gemini: Curiouser & Curiouser

I'm really excited about this New Moon. It's in Gemini for starters; a great place for explorers, visionaries, communicators, teachers. So let's focus all our intentions this month on being guided and being guides; spiritual guides and spirit guides.

As part of The 52 Project, a 52 week art journaling experiment I'm participating in (we're in the 6th week) I'm painting a lefty-a-day (a non dominant hand drawing) and I'm freeing myself from focusing on the 'biz of art'.

So, what IS my focus? Yes, art, but what is my art trying to COMMUNICATE?

Who am I? Who are you? Apart from your work, your interests, etc.

I AM DIVINE. YOU ARE DIVINE.

In the end, nothing else matters, right?

I am allowing myself to be GUIDED for these 52 weeks and let me tell you, it ain't easy, even as a professional creative soul guide.

Gemini Moon isn't necessarily about going too deep, that's more Scorpionic territory, but it is about opening your mind and your spirit to the unexpected. Get CURIOUS! Break up your routine. Play!

Sounds frivolous, you say? Maybe so, but play IS sacred. Letting loose joggles our cells around just enough to let the big stuff, the important stuff in, so when we're ready, we can explore it in more depth.

Full Moon in Sagittarius: Where past and present meet

Dear Creative Soul,

What's coming to fruition for you right now? If you set intentions on June 17 for the New Moon in Taurus look back at them now and take note. If you didn't then check in with your body and your higher self to find out what's going on.

Because it's Mercury Retrograde, don't expect a lot of forward motion until June 11 when Mercury goes direct, or better yet until June 27 when the shadow period is over.

Sagittarius rules abundance, aliens, dreams, long journeys, the upper legs, prayer, college teachers, turquoise and writers.

While the Moon is in Sag it's a good time to:

• Seek new horizons
• Explore worlds without maps
• Quest!
• Be outrageous
• Look to the future
• Seek freedom from all oppression

This Sag Full Moon makes me feel like crawling into a cave and soaking up some mineral wisdom. I'd bring a pencil, pen, Winsor Newton watercolor brushes, watercolor paper, gouache and some pigments made from an ancient formula.  I'd go back in time to when I was a sacred scribe; a monk; alone, but never lonely, never hungry, never thirsty, just filled with God/dess. This vision brings tears to my eyes.

I am still that monk, but in this lifetime my karmic mission is to express that depth of passion and wisdom in work that can touch others in an everyday way. I can live and create in the world, rather than outside of it. This I must remember.

New Moon in Taurus: A Mind Changing Meditation

So, as I started to meditate for this New Moon in Taurus I suddenly stopped because the paints and my Leftys were calling to me louder than words and so I listened and this is what emerged.

Now that she's sitting on my altar I can begin my meditation and New Moon Reading and I invite you to come along.

I have no great words of wisdom...I do have clouds after a rain with a blue sky peeking through and several tousle headed birds shaking off the rain that we so desperately need here in not-so-sunny SoCal and rays of light shining through my windows and silence, precious as rain. I have love and laughter and friends and family to share them with and a big, shaggy, black dog to take on long walks. I have tears and sorrow too, for I am human. I have mentors and books and a forest, both elfin and Northern.

Celebrate the Taurus energy of this New Moon by appreciating all that you DO have and all that is yours to protect and care for especially in the Natural World.

We are blessed indeed to be here on Planet Earth, but She needs our help. What part are you playing in this vital task?

I recently started reading "Mind Change: How Digital Technologies Are Leaving Their Mark On Our Brains" by neuroscientist, Susan Greenfield (published 2015) and I am finding it overly negative so am not sure I can finish it, but this part really resonated:

The less children play outdoors, the less they learn to cope with the risks and challenges they will go on to face as adults...Sometimes, even quite regularly, you might be bored. But it was that very state of understimulation that impelled you to draw a picture, make up a game, or go outside to play. The point I want to stress is that you were the driver and you would be in control of your own inner world, your own private reality. But now the screen can be the driver...You are now a passive recipient. ~ Susan Greenfield

I do believe the above to be true and I have to question whether this next quotation from Charles de Lint's book "Eyes Like Leaves" will even apply to us anymore if our brains are being re-wired through too many hours of screen time.

How To Shamanically Release Money Worries this Scorpio Full Moon

The sex organs and the sacral chakra, other people's money, red, psychics, blood, mud, brambles, geysers, graveyards, toilets...what do all these have in common? They are all ruled by Scorpio, the sign of the upcoming Full Moon on Sunday, May 3 at 8:42 pm pacific time.

As I write these words while sitting in front of my altar I realize I don't want to channel for this particular Full Moon like I usually do, but instead I'd like to write about the Lefty painting (shamanic cartoon) I did yesterday: I release fear.

When I painted her I meant for the text to read "I release fear" but when I studied it afterwards I realized it could easily be read as "I fear release"! HA! Both are true. And aren't they intimately connected?

I use my left hand drawings in my Creative Soul Readings (a deck of them, actually as I'm sure you already know). I figure out their meaning as I go along.

The Leftys act as shamanic cartoons I believe; a dose of the Trickster AND a self esteem booster prompting many who view them to feel "curiouser and curiouser" as they journey down the rabbit hole into their deeper soul-self.

I've been documenting my Leftys step-by-step recently both on Instagram and Tumblr; here's what I mean (see below).

I enjoy the instant feedback I get on Instagram (and Tumblr) in the form of likes (hearts), new followers and the occasional comment. I enjoy sharing the process - all hand done - not computer generated.

I created the Lefty, "I release fear" to help both myself and others release fears; especially money related fears. See that $ symbol above her head? She is a powerful being. May she support you as well 'cause she's definitely plying her cell-rearranging magick on me. Since working with her over the last 24 hours, I've figured out and written down the branding for my Lefty Art in a way that captures their essence; their heart and soul and mine too, of course, because we are the same. Each time I start to feel anxious about $ I envision this Lefty and I see the strong green pubic triangle that forms the base of the green heart surrounding her and I also see the  3 black (raven) feathers in her place of power. Beneath her is a deep, dark pool of knowledge going down and into the center of the earth, the universe where dark, healing magic grows and sustains us as we lay down roots and claim our power; the power of the Earth Herself.

So, for this Scorpio Full Moon (in cahoots with Beltane/May Day at 8:05 pm on the same day) grab your crystal ball (i chose Obsidian) and go deep.

What needs releasing? Let it out, let it go. Do ritual, ceremony, write it out and burn it in a fire, bury it in the earth or let it flow away in watery tears. Whatever works for you. This Scorpio Moon can help with that; it can help you release and transform and if your issues are $ related please work with today's shamanic  Lefty painting and report back here or to me: I'm always curious to hear more.

Why honesty matters in business AND in life

It's the Aries New Moon coming up; the baby moon, the self-ish, self-less Moon I AM moon with a focus on ME and on YOU and on Spring (or Fall) and on moving forward fearlessly, plan or no plan. As for ME, I've been re-structuring EVERYTHING in relation to my biz; sorting out what's important and what to let go of; sorting out my branding (another word for soul-work) and my products on offer: artwork, services, and classes and circles and blog...the list goes on.

Why should MY story matter to you? Why read on?

Because words matter. I matter.  And part of my community service IS this blog and the honesty with which it's written, so maybe it's the Honesty Cliff I'm jumping off this Aries New Moon. What about you? Wanna leap with me?

I'm gonna be honest when I say that my Lefty art comes FIRST in my biz. They lead the way. They also guide my Creative Soul Readings (my other focus) and they had their big debut as a unified whole this month as well - yahoo!

Okay, so...honesty.

I am 100% obsessed with my Leftys. I've had an on/off love affair with them since 2000 when they first appeared. They are pretty much all I talk about; that and my in-person readings.

Who are they? And why should you care?!

I DON'T KNOW - you tell me.

They were born when my right hand grew bored with drawing and painting and so my left hand gave it a whirl and LIKED IT. They helped birth my heightened intuition which forced me to start giving intuitive readings along with many other adventures like appearing on stage in Hollywood with my hero Michelle Shocked as she sang my favorite song in the background, "When I grow up I want to be an old woman".

The Leftys are awkward and weird and imperfect and charming and loveable and beautiful and tricksters, yes, TRICKSTERS.

They don't fit into a homogenized world. They stand out and they stand up for themselves and for others of their ilk.

The Leftys mean something special and different to everyone who encounters them. That's why, in creative soul readings I ask the client to interpret the Lefty card they choose without my help. That's why the Leftys were born - to empower folks to believe in themselves.
