Grateful. As I painted her face a frog appeared in my mind and a combination bullfrog and tree frog appeared on the page. Surrounded by FIRE energy; passion, creativity, love symbolized by the color orange and the rays of a sun or a sunflower extending out from the frog. In her heart was rain and sorrow and tears; both sadness and release as symbolized by the giant teardrop in the left corner. The two energies and colors: cool (blues) and warms (reds) melded together to form her striped shirt and she was complete. NOW, she could move forward. NOW she could sing.

Forest Heart: A Painting in Gouache Explored

I have decided to paint and write about one painting a day and then blog it too! A tall task that I began yesterday on the Celtic New Year (Nov. 1). I feel happy about my decision and pumped!

My current series of work is the Spirit Animal Series painted in gouache on 6 x 6 inch Montreal-made watercolor paper.

In today's painting the woman is definitely indigenous; of the forest, the hemlocks, the rivers and the hot sun of California, as is the Marten, her Spirit Animal. It is peace she seeks; in nature and within. Yet she is a fierce fighter when called upon. The River sings her to sleep and the Sun, hot and unrelenting, sings her praises, but it is deep within the forest that she belongs; singing her heart song, silently, relentlessly, alive.

Scorpio New Moon: Celebrate the Darkness

As we approach the Scorpio New Moon on Oct. 30 we delve into themes such as: letting go of the old...entering the dark...claiming our power - all themes relating to Hallowe'en or Samhain.

Frankly, a lot of the time I feel like letting go of everything, but that's not why I'm here or you either, I bet.

I have few words right now, but I do have paintings. Inspired by English landscape Alice Sheridan who I've been conversing with lately by email about her writing that accompanies her work I decided to give it a try myself as part of my new Spirit Animal Series.
