Happy Spring or Fall for those 'down under'. Have you set your intentions yet 'cause Spring is New Year's for nature lovers or, dare I say pagans, like us? The word pagan means 'country dweller'. Some of us just need to be near nature. How about you, what are your thoughts? Comments welcome below.

March's Cat

Kathy Crabbe, March’s Cat, 2004, silk dyes on silk, 8x10”. Happy March! The black cat painting above is called March's Cat and was inspired by a wild kitty who adopted me on the last night of a two month long art festival in Laguna Beach. One of my fellow exhibitors was carrying him in her arms after capturing him in a trap on the Sawdust Art Festival grounds. Luis aka 'Pin' grew up to be a shy, slightly clumsy, but still wild black cat that we lost eventually to the coyotes, but I think that's how he would have wanted it.

ABOUT LULU IN LAGUNA PAINTINGS LuLu in Laguna Originals are painted with silk dyes and watercolors by artist, Kathy Crabbe. She was inspired by living in mermaidalicious Laguna Beach, California for 8 years where she spent her time frolicking with red-headed mermaids, water-dogs, garden cats and artists as well as exhibiting her art every summer at the Sawdust Art Festival. Kathy's fairies were inspired by spending time in nature amongst wildflowers, ancient oaks and elfin forests in Southern California's inland valleys.

Happy Spring Equinox!

Mother awakens! She stirs, sending forth shoots and leaves, whispering sweet desires, coaxing forth all who seek release from the bonds of Winter's Night. At solstice we sheltered, tiny in the still fathomless darkness. Now like the bird in the eggshell, we've swelled to fill the space. Our world grows tight, cramped. We feel anxious, our resources nearly gone. Time to peck our way out and claim the promise of Spring.

How? First, notice and name What Binds You. Name the prisons of fearsome circumstance, disillusionment, environmental crisis. Notice what feels stifled, blocked hopeless. Then circle together to Turn It Around! Stir and flex your power. Stretch and moan, rock and sing, and break free at the peak. Emerge from the broken shell of winter. Feel lightened, lifted, determined to leave the old world in shards behind you. Sparkling and sovereign stride into the Gateway, between the twin pillars, one light one dark. Unbound, blessed and surging, retrieve the trust that comes with balance. Thrive in the burgeoning. light.
